The Kia line-up already boasts a large saloon car in the UK, the Kia Optima, so why do they need another executive model? The answer is simple! The Kia Stinger GT isn’t just another Kia aimed at Mondeo man, it’s a full on assault on the prestigious five-door coupé market currently dominated by Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz to name but a few. So when the 2018 Kia Stinger goes on sale its sights will firmly be set on this exclusive market sector. Furthermore Kia expects pricing to start at a very competitive £31,995 for the entry level 2.0-litre model, while the top-spec V6 versions could cost little more than £40,000.
Kia Stinger GT
Inspired by the classic GT cars of the 1970s, and evolved from the concept car that Kia first showed off in 2011, the Stinger Gran Turismo is all about long-distance comfort at speed, and really does look the part. Its long, vented bonnet, aggressive front grille and low sleek body are a huge change from Kia’s more serene saloons, family hatchbacks and SUV’s.
The new Stinger GT from the Korean manufacturer holds all the records that matter; the most powerful, fastest and most expensive car ever produced by Kia and it aims to take on the best that the German marques have to offer. The entry level four-cylinder options including a 244 bhp 2-litre turbocharged petrol and 197 bhp 2.2-litre diesel will be offered exclusively with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive. These engines will be available in GT-Line and GT-Line S trims, while the flagship 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 version will be available exclusively in GT-S trim, complete with a high-end luxury features and styling. The hotly anticipated Stinger 365 bhp GT-S at £40,495 is priced more than £5k cheaper than the less powerful BMW 440i Gran Coupe.
