Genesis is a stand-alone luxury car brand. The South Korean manufacturer, Hyundai Motor Company, created it. So, while Hyundai owns the brand, Genesis operates separately and focuses only on high-end vehicles.
Most Genesis cars are currently built and manufactured in Ulsan, South Korea. This plant is known as the birthplace of the South Korean automotive industry. However, the design teams work all over the world, with studios in Germany and the US, to make sure the final product combines the best of global automotive thinking.
The idea for Genesis started a while ago, back in 2004, when Hyundai began planning a new luxury sedan. They eventually launched a model called the Hyundai Genesis in 2008.
The company realised that the luxury market needs its own focus and identity. So, in November 2015, Genesis was officially launched as a totally independent brand. They then released their first stand-alone model, the G90, in 2017. Since then, Genesis has grown quickly, bringing in top designers from other famous luxury brands to make sure their cars stand out. It is a relatively new name, but it is built on years of development and a clear plan to compete with the biggest names in luxury motoring.
