After the launch of the Deepal S07, Changan are already populating the UK’s roads with their premium electric SUVs. Now it’s the turn of the smaller sibling to show its prowess. It packs the same extensive suite of safety features, alongside some of its own unique features, to deliver a small package that packs a punch.

The Changan Deepal S05 is available as both a pure electric and an extended range-extended electric (EREV). By early 2026, the S05 will be cruising across roads in Britain and Northern Ireland, demonstrating the same attention to detail and beautiful styling that can be seen in the S07.
For its performance, design and technology, the Deepal S05 is priced incredibly competitively, starting at just £33,000. Despite being new to UK roads, Changan is a well-established brand in Asia, able to utilise economies of scale to deliver a fantastically priced car to UK drivers.
The Deepal S05’s compact size and capable battery make it a car that’s more than capable of getting up to speed, even in a short space of time. Even in winter, you can rest assured that you’re in safe hands because of the plethora of winter features in the car. The S05 uses battery pulse heating technology to heat the battery internally, getting it up to an optimal temperature far quicker than external methods of heating.
The EV variant has a range of up to 301 miles thanks to a 68.8 kWh battery that can be charged from 10%-80% in just 23 minutes. The EREV has an all-electric range of 96 miles, perfect for even a longer commute.
Luckily for UK drivers, the Europe-exclusive AWD version of the S05 is landing on British shores to deliver more stability, power and traction.
If the S05’s design doesn’t speak for itself, the long list of awards it has won certainly will, including the prestigious iF Design Award.
The team at Deepal set out to design a car that is firmly in the 21st century, while also hinting at the electric future that the car industry is heading towards. Elegant lines and curves are the main focus of the Deepal S05’s bodywork, with flush door handles to ensure the car remains aerodynamic to drive and beautiful to look at.
As you’d expect, the S05 is available in a range of stylish colours from Moonlight White to Vault Black.
The dimensions of the car, while spacious, are still small enough to be easy to park and drive around town or on long motorway cruises.
Like its bigger sibling, the S05 is packed with innovative, easy-to-use technology that makes it a pleasure to drive and be a passenger in.
The two-tone colour scheme throughout the spacious interior is pleasing to the eye and stands out without being gaudy. The large tablet-style infotainment screen makes navigating menus a breeze, whether it’s setting a destination or choosing the ultimate driving playlist.
There’s plenty of convenient storage space throughout the interior alongside 50-watt fast charging to keep your devices’ batteries topped up without messy wires.
In the rear of the vehicle, there’s a large 492-litre boot that can be expanded to 1,250 litres by folding down the rear seats, alongside a 159-litre trunk.
Whether you’re a driver or a passenger in a Deepal S05, there are plenty of features to keep you safe and secure on the road.
The car is fitted with various ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems) such as adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist and a driver fatigue system to keep you on the straight and narrow.
Should an accident happen, the S05’s body is reinforced and is fitted with multiple airbags throughout the cabin, features that helped the S07 achieve a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
The main differences between the S05 and the S07 is the size. The S07 is a mid-sized SUV, granting extra space at the expense of some of the sportiness and speed. The S05, on the other hand, is a compact SUV.
An S07 might be more suited to families who find themselves needing a larger boot and more comfortable rear space. The S05, while still being a capable family car, might be a better option for commuters or smaller families.
