Genesis is a relatively new name in the UK luxury car market, but it has made a significant impact very quickly. They are the premium brand from the Hyundai Motor Group, focusing on luxury and great design. Competing with established luxury European manufacturers, Genesis trades blows with the heavyweights of the luxury car world.
Genesis has electric versions of most of their most popular brands, with the aims to electrify their entire range in the UK before the ban on the sale of petrol and diesel models in 2030.
Genesis has electric versions of some of their most popular models, and it also has the purpose-built GV60 electric car, hinting at the electrified future the brand is aiming for.
The company has publicly stated that they are moving towards becoming an all-electric brand in the future. So, if you are thinking about an EV now or in the future, Genesis is definitely a brand to consider.
Genesis has three great electric options available right now, all of which give you a different kind of luxury driving experience.
The Electrified GV70 takes the popular mid-sized luxury SUV and converts it to a purely electric drive. It keeps the strong, confident SUV looks of the petrol version but adds an electric powertrain for quiet, powerful driving.
The Electrified GV70 uses an 84 kWh battery and can officially achieve up to 298 miles of range on a single charge. Thanks to the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup, the Electrified GV70 has a combined 490 horsepower when you hit the 'Boost' button on the steering wheel, and that lets it go from 0 to 62 mph in around 4.2 seconds. Charging is also a breeze because of its 800V charging system, which takes the car from 10% to 80% charge in a little under 20 minutes at an ultra-rapid charging point.
The Electrified GV70 is a capable car, and it looks like it. It features the distinct Genesis look with the large Crest Grille and the signature two-line LED headlights. It sits on 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels, depending on the trim level, giving an even more sporty look. With a refined but beautiful exterior, the GV70 stands out in the SUV category as being a sportier alternative to boring SUVs.
Inside, the Electrified GV70 is plush and feels high-end. You get a large 27-inch panoramic OLED display that combines the instrument cluster and navigation screens. The cabin is spacious, and with an added package, you can get luxurious Nappa leather seats with special Milky Way-inspired ambient lighting. The ride comfort is excellent thanks to the Electronically Controlled Suspension with Road Preview, which uses the front camera to prepare for bumps and potholes.
The Electrified G80 is the electric version of the flagship saloon car. It’s a large, executive car that is focused on ultimate luxury and comfort, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with luxury European brands.
This car is all about being a quiet, comfortable limo-style car. It is a fantastic option if you do a lot of motorway driving or if you are looking for a car where you and your passengers can really relax. The latest 2025 version is only offered with an extended wheelbase, which makes the back seats even more spacious and comfortable for passengers.
The Electrified G80 now has a 90 kWh battery, which gives it an impressive official WLTP range of up to 354 miles. It’s built primarily for comfort and luxury, but the 365 hp and 7000nM of torque take the car from 0-60 in just over 5 seconds – seriously quick, all without disturbing the tranquillity in the cabin. Charging takes about 25 minutes to go from 10% to 80% with an ultrafast charger.
It has the classic, elegant long saloon shape, while the signature Crest Grille and twin-line quad lamps give it that distinguished Genesis appearance. Since this is the electric version, it does not need a large front air intake, which makes the front end look clean and modern.
The interior continues the luxurious look and feel; the G80 is built for comfort, especially for drivers and passengers. You can get heated, cooled, and even massaging rear seats, along with controls for the sound system. The driver will find all the info needed through a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment screen, finished with premium materials like leather.
The GV60 is the brand's first electric car that was designed to be electric from the ground up, sharing its excellent platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. It is a compact crossover that focuses on modern style and innovative technology.
This is the most futuristic-looking of the electric line-up. It is a smaller car than the GV70, making it easier to drive through country lanes and busy urban streets, but it still offers great space and performance.
The GV60 is offered with three different power levels, all using an 84 kWh battery pack. The entry-level Pure model is rear-wheel drive and gives the best official range at up to 348 miles. The mid-spec Sport gives you all-wheel drive, 314 horsepower, and a range of 318 miles. The top-of-the-range Performance model is incredibly quick, hitting 62 mph in just 4.0 seconds, though the range drops slightly to 311 miles. Like the GV70, it can charge from 10% to 80% in about 18 minutes.
The GV60 is certainly distinctive. It has a coupé-like roofline, giving it a sporty look, and features the two-line headlamps and a clamshell bonnet. Its size makes it look agile, but capable, great for quick commutes or long motorway journeys.
The cabin is full of innovative tech. A standout feature is the Crystal Sphere, which is a rotating glass globe that acts as the gear selector when the car is ready to drive and as a stylish piece of cabin lighting when the car is off. The GV60 also uses a facial recognition system to lock and unlock the doors. Despite its smaller size, the 432-litre boot still provides plenty of room for luggage or pets.
The Magma is not a single car but Genesis’ new high-performance division. We have seen concepts like the Magma GT and the G90 Magma Wingback, but the first production model will be the GV60 Magma.
The Magma range will inject more speed and thrills into the Genesis range, taking high-end performance technology from its sister brands. This will take cars like the GV60 and give it a 0-60 speed rivalling supercars, thanks to an incredible 650 horsepower from the electric motor.
You can expect sporty styling with sharper angles, more aggressive suspension and steering, and larger alloy wheels than the standard versions of Magma cars.
Genesis places a lot of importance on safety, and you will find a very strong package of technology in all of their electric models.
A lot of the advanced features are standard across the range. For example, all models come with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, which not only detects vehicles and pedestrians ahead but can also automatically apply the brakes if a crash seems likely. You also get Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, which warns you when you try to change lanes with a car in your blind spot and can even brake to stop a collision.
Highway Driving Assist works with the cruise control to help you keep a safe distance from the car in front while also helping to keep you centred in your lane on the motorway.
For parking, features like the Surround View Monitor give you a 360-degree view around the car, and you can even get Remote Smart Parking Assist to remotely move the car into a tight parking spot.
