Genesis is a luxury car brand that hails from South Korea, created by the Hyundai Motor Group. However, it’s important to remember that Genesis operates as its own brand, focusing solely on high-end vehicles. With its cars manufactured in the birthplace of South Korea’s automotive industry, Genesis has been operating as a wholly independent brand since 2015.
Its extensive line-up of premium vehicles includes sporty saloons and bold SUVs to suit any driving style. Two of the models we’ll be looking at here are the GV70 and GV80, luxury SUVs with an abundance of attractive features.
Both the GV70 and GV80 are large SUVs, offering incredible value with a focus on comfort, elegant design and practicality. The GV80 was launched first in 2020, with its smaller and more compact version appearing in the form of the GV70.
Both models deliver a premium driving experience, but understanding the difference is key as they are both desirable choices for those in the market for a family SUV at an affordable price. So, let’s have a closer look at what sets these two vehicles apart.
From the available powertrains to the safety features, let’s compare the Genesis GV70 and GV80 SUVs.
The GV70 is designed to enhance the driving experience, making it an enjoyable ride for the driver with a smooth drive thanks to the electronic suspension and all-wheel drive. With a sportier and more agile feel to the car, the GV70 is ideal for urban driving and more nimble handling.
On the other hand, the GV80 can offer a more luxurious cruising experience, with more space and a higher towing capacity, making it a great choice for longer trips or maximising passenger and cargo capabilities.
Both models are available in a number of different trims and engine types, offering you a choice in performance levels.
There’s no surprise that the GV80 is longer, by around 25cm. The GV80 also has a bigger wheelbase and is ever so slightly wider than the GV70. When it comes to the appearance of the two models, the GV70 has a typically more agile stance while the GV80 has a more commanding presence.
The GV70 features 21-inch wheels, dark-tinted radiator grille with dark chrome (exclusive to the Sport package), adding to its sporty feel. The GV80 offers the bold crest grille and quad headlamps, with larger 22-inch wheels.
When it comes to the cabin of the GV70 and GV80, the biggest difference you’ll find is that the GV80 can offer between 5-7 seats to suit your lifestyle. The 5-seater is set up as standard, while it turns into a 7-seater with seats on a third row that can be electronically folded down when not in use.
Furthermore, the GV70’s boot holds up to 542L, with the ability to fold the back row to increase this to 1,678L. In comparison, the GV80’s boot holds 735L in the 5-seater mode.
Both the GV70 and GV80 feature ergo-motion seats for the driver and front passenger, with quilted Nappa leather for enhanced comfort.
If it’s ambience you’re looking to improve on your journeys, the GV70 offers mood-enhancing lighting discreetly built into the trim. The GV80 takes this further with its very own Mood Curator, working to bring together music, ambient lighting, massage settings and even fragrance to set the tone for each drive.
You can rest assured that both the GV70 and GV80 have been designed with safety at the forefront, given that they are both family-sized vehicles. Drive with confidence as both models are equipped with features like collision avoidance assistance, with the GV80 even offering a remote parking assist system.
Both models deliver an augmented reality navigation system, with a live video feed of your route ahead to provide a clearer indication of direction and entry/exit points. You can also enjoy the innovation head-up display projected on to the windscreen.
