Honda UK sets Guinness World Record for largest rugby ball mosaic

Stuart Bateman, our Assistant Service Manager at Brindley Honda Cannock recently took part in Honda UK's successful Guinness World Record attempt at creating the biggest Rugby Ball Mosaic.

A total of 2,030 size-five rugby balls were used to create the mosaic: 813 supporter-quality red balls, and 1,217 training-quality white balls. The balls were supplied by Gilbert, the official supplier of England Rugby and used to create a mosaic of the iconic Honda logo.

The mosaic covered an area of 104.6m² - that's almost 14 Honda HR-V e:HEV's - inside the world-famous Twickenham stadium, home to the England Rugby Union team.

The record-breaking Honda logo mosaic was subject to stringent quality checks to ensure that it complied with Guinness World Records' rules. Guinness World Records, the global authority on record-breaking, required documentary evidence, including videography, photography, a surveyor's, report and independent witness reports.

Earlier this year, Honda announced a multi-year deal with the England Rugby Football Union. The Honda logo is now displayed across the England men's under-18's and under-20's playing training kits, which is one of several new initiatives.

Honda is also making a commitment to grassroots games. The record-breaking rugby balls used to form the mosaic will be donated to grassroots rugby clubs across the UK by local Honda Dealerships.

Our Assistant Service Manager, Stuart met with Ben, Captain of the Burntwood rugby club (pictured left) the following weekend to donate the bag of Gilbert balls given to Brindley Honda. The gift was greatly received by Ben and the club.

On choosing Burntwood Rugby Club to receive the gift, Stuart said: "This was a great opportunity to show our support and strengthen relationships within our local community. I was particularly happy to donate the rugby balls to the Burntwood club who are teaching the love for the game and the importance of team work to younger people through their youth team".

Jean-Marc Streng, Managing Director at Honda UK, added: “We’re delighted to have set a new Guinness World Records title at the home of English rugby. It was an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the game at one of the most iconic stadiums in world sport, while also getting in the record books.

“Power of dreams is the Honda slogan for a reason. Being able to surprise our customers and our colleagues with an activity like this is incredible. It’s unconventional, but it’s also an amazing opportunity – especially because so many deserving local clubs are going to benefit from it. Sports and community are important to us, and we’re looking forward to continuing our pursuit of both.”
