The electric SUV market is quickly heating up, with several large manufacturers making huge leaps in recent years. Honda is the latest one to do so with the announcement of the hotly anticipated Honda e:Ny1.

Honda has pedigree in the electric car market, with its first electric car dating back to the 90s with 1997’s Honda EV Plus. The e:Ny1 joins the Honda e as Honda’s second fully-electric car in their range, with more sure to follow as the UK approaches the 2035 ban on ICE vehicles.

Key Details of the Honda e:Ny1

The e:Ny1 represents Honda’s first foray into mainstream electric car manufacturing. The previously mentioned Honda EV Plus was never actually available to buy, only to lease and the Honda e, while being a fantastic car, is quite expensive and has too limited a range to be considered truly mainstream.

Being an SUV, the e:Ny1 offers all of the benefits of a traditional petrol or diesel SUV such as great road visibility, fantastic boot space and industry-leading comfort. But scratch a little deeper and you’ll see that the e:Ny1 isn’t your average SUV.

There are two trim levels within the e:Ny1 model - the Elegance and Advance. The Advance comes in at £2,200 more expensive than the Elegance, with the cars sharing many of the same features such as heated seats and keyless entry and start. The advance offers premium features such as a panoramic sunroof and heated steering wheel, amongst others.

Interior Features of the Honda e:Ny1

As with any Honda, the interior is stylish and modern, with the 15.1-inch infotainment screen taking centre stage on the dashboard. From one screen you can control the stereo, navigation as well as heating controls. The heating can also be controlled by using the My Honda+ app.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are installed on the car’s system so you can make use of the multitude of features that come with those platforms.

The premium leather seats in the e:Ny1 offer comfort across the board, with the car coming with heated front seats as standard. As with Honda’s ICE SUVs, there is plenty of boot space and room for passengers, making the e:Ny1 a perfect family car.

Powerful Performance

With both trim models coming in at just under 200 BHP, you can be sure that you’ll never be short of power on the road, despite being a large family SUV.

The Honda e:Ny1 offers up to 256 miles in a single charge, with Honda also boasting a 60-mile range from just 11 minutes of charging when using an appropriate charger, meaning that you can avoid long stops towards the end of your journey. Honda’s trademark personality is also on display when charging, with flashing lights appearing above the charging port.

The car offers three main driving modes to cater to different types of drivers. Sport mode offers maximum performance, economy favours mileage over performance and normal mode strikes a balance between the two.

The car’s clever Econ mode will automatically turn on your heated seat and heated steering wheel while turning down your A/C temperature to ensure that the driver is as comfortable as ever while still saving electricity.

What Safety Features will you find in the Honda e:Ny1?

Honda has fitted the e:Ny1 with their Honda Sensing system, a system designed to use sensors to keep the driver safe. Sensing doesn’t take away from the driving experience but rather compliments those niggly parts of driving such as avoiding low-speed collisions and switching from high beam to low beam to avoid dazzling other road users.

Here is a list of some of the features you can find with Honda Sensing:

Safety features:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • Lane Departure Warning

Driver-assistive features:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
  • Traffic Sign Recognition System
